Meet the team
The team at Griot Creative largely comes from mainstream news and current affairs, which makes us the ideal company to be engaging, if you are looking for a documentary feel to your film and video production. Find out more about our team below.
Hywel George FRSA
Griot Creative was created and is directed by Hywel George.
Hywel trained as an actor and journalist. He has worked for many years in radio and television with credits at BBC, ITV and Sky.
Hywel is passionate about story telling and believes the ownership of the way the story is told should rest with the subject rather than the storyteller.

He has done pioneering, award winning work, in the emerging world with participatory film, and lectures in journalism and filmmaking when his busy travel schedule allows. He also speaks on communication strategy and ethics.
Catarina Oliveira
Catarina is an all-round filmmaker, currently doing most of our in-house post-production work and an increasing amount of direction.

With a background in fine arts and film studies, Cat began her career in Lisbon working as a multimedia designer and video editor. She moved to Bristol in 2012 and started freelancing, and also joined our Griot Creative team.

Independently, Catarina has developed film projects in the occupied Palestinian West Bank and in Bosnia; her interest in media representation and human rights was the main reason she joined our team. In her spare time Cat collaborates with local emerging film makers and develops her own creative projects as a writer/director. She is currently editing her first feature film.
Stephanie Pierzchala
Stephi arrived to join the team from Berlin in October 2015. Building on her extensive experience with Deutsche Welle Akademie she is now supporting both our Griot Creative Projects and our Peoples Voice work with participatory video.

Stephi trained as an audiovisual media designer. Combining her professional expertise with strong language, intercultural and pedagogical skills, she has mostly worked on international development projects in Africa: helping professionals to improve their camerawork, editing and storytelling skills, empowering them to tell authentic and inspiring “African Stories“.
Stephi also helped develop a TV youth news pilot in Namibia, based on content she animated her self. She spends her free time in nature and is currently working on her own second feature length documentary.

Photographer and lighting-cameraman born in Navarre, Spain.
David has been dedicated to image both in photography and cinematography for more than ten years now. Developing personal documentary work, focusing in social issues since he graduated in Photography and Digital Image in UPC, Barcelona.

In 2013 he published the book “Bolivia; the favoured daughter”.
